SERENDIPITY LUXE TREATMENTS

Thermolysis (Electrolysis)

Permanent hair removal, one follicle at a time.

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

What is Thermolysis (Electrolysis)?

Thermolysis is the heat-based form of electrolysis. A sterile, single-use probe is gently introduced into the natural opening of an individual hair follicle. A brief high-frequency current produces heat to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth, and the treated hair is then gently removed with tweezers.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Your Treatment, Step by Step

Who is a good candidate for thermolysis?

Thermolysis may be an option when laser is unsuitable or when your goal is permanent removal of individual hairs. It can be considered for:

  • Blonde, white, grey, red or very light brown hair that laser may not effectively target
  • Small areas requiring precision, such as between the eyebrows or eyebrow shaping, subject to assessment
  • Hair over tattoos, depending on the location and hair type
  • Unwanted hormonal hair growth
  • People seeking permanent hair removal through a personalised course of treatment

We will discuss the options at your consultation. You can also explore our Triton laser hair removal service.

What happens during treatment?

Skin preparation: Your hair growth is assessed and the skin is sanitised. Numbing cream may be used where appropriate and discussed at your consultation.

Treatment: A sterile, single-use probe slides into the follicle’s natural opening. A brief radiofrequency current heats the targeted follicle tissue. The hair is then grasped with tweezers and should slide out gently.

Aftercare: The clinic may apply Caladryl and beta-glucan gel where suitable for your skin, and will provide individual aftercare instructions.

What should I expect afterwards?

Minor redness and swelling can occur. These may settle within an hour or last longer, depending on your skin and the treatment area. Occasionally, a tiny scab or crust forms at a treated follicle. Leave it to heal naturally and follow the aftercare instructions provided.

How many sessions will I need?

Your treatment plan depends on the area, hair density and thickness, hormonal factors, appointment length and hair-growth cycles. Hairs are most effectively treated during the active growth phase, so repeat visits are needed as different hairs become available for treatment.

As a broad clinic guideline, some treatment plans may involve around 8–12 hour-long sessions, while a full course may extend over 12–24 months. These are examples rather than a prediction for every person or area. Your consultation will help establish a realistic schedule, and your progress will guide any changes.

How is thermolysis different from laser hair removal?

Thermolysis treats individual follicles and does not rely on pigment in the hair, making it an option for light-coloured hairs. Laser treats a larger area and is used for long-term hair reduction. The most appropriate choice depends on your hair, skin, treatment area and goals.
